Summary of fresh potato sales from Fiscal Year 2022 (July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022).


  • Fresh potato sales increased by 3% in dollars but fell by 5.6% in volume.
  • Yellow potatoes increased by 12% in dollars and by 4.6% in volume sales.
  • Fresh potato sales account for 23% of retail store sales and 28% of volume sold.
  • When looking at fresh package types, micro/steamer and tray potatoes are the only two categories that increased in dollar and volume sales.

Total Potato Sales: July – September 2023


Potato retail dollar sales remained strong for the quarter from July-September 2023, up 9.5% from the same period a year ago. All categories of potatoes increased in dollar sales. Fresh volume sales remained stable compared to a year ago (-0.4%), led by increases in yellow (3.3%), red #2.8%), and fingerling potatoes (3.9%). Total potato volume sales slightly decreased (-1.7%) compared to a year ago.
