U.S. Potato Export Value Reaches $2.17 Billion in July 2025-June 2026 Marketing Year

DENVER (Sept. 1, 2026) – U.S. exports of potato products totaled 2.99 million metric tons (fresh weight equivalent) valued at $2.17 billion during the July 2025 through June 2026 marketing year, according to trade data from the U.S. Department of Commerce. Export volume declined 4.8% from the previous year, while export value decreased 6.3%.

Fresh potatoes recorded growth among the major product categories. Export volume increased 14.9% year over year to 706,152 metric tons (FWE), while export value rose 6.8% to $351.7 million. Fresh potatoes represented 23.6% of total export volume, compared with 19.6% the previous year. Potato chip exports increased 8.4% in volume to 193,916 metric tons (FWE), while export value rose 10.4% to $244.6 million.

Frozen potato products remained the largest export category, accounting for 1.38 million metric tons (FWE) and $1.33 billion in export value, representing 46.3% of export volume. Dehydrated potato exports reached 675,972 metric tons (FWE) valued at $223.7 million, representing 22.6% of total export volume.  Potato chip exports totaled 193,916 metric tons (FWE) with a value of $244.6 million, representing 8.4% of total export volume.

Mexico remained the largest market for U.S. potato exports by volume at 671,567 metric tons (FWE), followed by Canada at 642,330 metric tons (FWE) and Japan at 624,391 metric tons (FWE). By export value, Japan was the leading market at $500.9 million, followed by Mexico at $421.8 million and Canada at $336.7 million. Together, these three markets accounted for more than half of total U.S. potato export value during the marketing year.

By region, the Americas received 1.57 million metric tons (FWE) of U.S. potato products, representing approximately 52.5% of total export volume. The Asia-Pacific region imported 1.30 million metric tons (FWE), representing 43.5% of total export volume, while Central and Southwest Asia imported 88,297 metric tons (FWE) and Europe imported 32,313 metric tons (FWE).

The data includes exports of frozen potato products, dehydrated potato products, fresh potatoes, seed potatoes, and potato chips to destinations worldwide during the July 2025-June 2026 marketing year. Export volume is reported in fresh weight equivalent (FWE).
