Strava Athletes Fuel 5M+ Miles with Potatoes in ‘Streaky Spud’ Challenge

April 30, 2025

Nearly 86,000 athletes fueled their workouts with potatoes in Team Potato’s “Streaky Spud” Strava Challenge in March, logging over 5 million miles—enough to go to the moon and back more than 10 times!

What is “Streaky Spud?”

The challenge prompted participants to complete a four-day streak of activity two weeks in a row from March 10 to 23. Since extra activity requires extra fuel, participants were encouraged to eat potatoes to get the energy needed to perform their best. The challenge was hosted on Strava, an app that helps its 150 million users record all types of activity to inspire their athletic performance.

Results: Team Potato added more than 3,700 new members as a result of the “Streaky Spud” challenge, bringing the total to over 21,000.

Why it matters: Partnership with Strava, which began in 2023, has led to significant growth for Team Potato. The group has grown from 700 members before introducing Strava challenges to over 21,000 members today. Team Potato members help amplify the message that potatoes fuel performance by sharing it with their communities, especially at races, gyms, and online. Over 300,000 athletes have participated in Team Potato Strava challenges, clocking over 32 million potato-fueled miles.
