New peer-reviewed publication bolsters case against Glycemic Index

March 29, 2023

A peer-reviewed paper from the Quality Carbohydrate Coalition published in Nutrients on March 5th explains how a new carbohydrate scoring system can evaluate the healthfulness of different eating patterns.

For context, the Quality Carbohydrate Coalition-Scientific Advisory Council (QCC-SAC) developed the Carbohydrate Food Quality Scoring System (CFQS), a novel, innovative approach to quantifying carbohydrate quality. This latest publication features the new scoring system by demonstrating how it can be used across different food patterns and help all Americans better meet The Dietary Guidelines for Americans’ recommendations. The CFQS is a food-based system for scoring carbohydrate quality that can be used instead of glycemic index to make food recommendations.

While it’s not ready for consumers, the third resource generated by the QCC provides additional support to the argument that the glycemic index is outdated and used incorrectly to make population-based diet recommendations.
