Diploid Field Days

July 28, 2023

The Potatoes 2.0 project is dedicated to developing a potato breeding system responsive to grower and market needs by moving the genetic processes from tetraploids (four chromosomes) to diploids (two chromosomes). While still under development in the U.S., countries like China and Europe are the leaders in diploid potato experiments.

Although excitement surrounds the potential, skepticism about success in the U.S. market still exists. To help address concerns, field days will display diploids to participants, allowing time for examination and questions.

Interested in seeing for yourself? Participate in one of the field days below!

·      August 17 in Maine

·      August 24 in Michigan

Contact Alyssa Green, Al****@*********SA.com, for more information or to get connected for a field day visit.

The Potatoes 2.0 project is funded by a Specialty CropResearch Initiative (SCRI) grant and the potato industry.
