Satellite media tour helps consumers jump-start a healthy new year with potatoes

March 29, 2023

To jump-start the new year, Potatoes USA teamed up with Registered Dietitian Cara Harbstreet to educate consumers about the nutritional benefits of potatoes and share some cooking hacks to make potato prep quicker and easier. These eye-catching and fun TV and radio segments featured three recipes, each highlighting a different cooking method – like using the slow cooker for Green Chili, Corn, and Potato Chowder and roasting potatoes along with a protein for an easy, one-pan, nutritious meal.

Twenty-seven interviews were filmed in a kitchen studio in New York City and shared via satellite with stations around the country. You can view one of the interviews from the program “Coffee with America.” All featured recipes are on PotatoGoodness.com.

TV and radio reporters couldn’t hide their enthusiasm, sharing how thrilled they were to hear how nutritious potatoes are – and how easy they can be to prep and cook. One reporter from Columbus, OH, remarked that learning all this “took the pressure off grocery shopping,” and another from Huntington, WV exclaimed that this was “great news – we love the potato!”

Through this effort, an estimated 27.6 million consumers learned more about potato nutrition and cooking hacks on 1,948 TV and radio stations around the country. Check out some of the TV  clips from Huntington, WV, Jacksonville, FL, and San Antonio, TX and share them with your friends and family.

In addition to TV and radio segments, a press release that included similar information was picked up 320 times on sites like the Associated Press and The Philadelphia Tribune.

Cara Harbstreet was featured on WSAZ NewsChannel 3 in Huntington, WV, showcasing different ways to cook with potatoes.
