Millions of American TV viewers, radio and podcast listeners learned how to fuel their day with energy-packed potatoes for National Physical Fitness and Sports Month in May. Take a look at the interview segment here.
The Strategy: Kelly Jones, a board-certified specialist in sports dietetics, media and nutrition communications conducted a series of interviews with television stations around the country from Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Columbus, GA.
The Message: Kelly discussed why nutrient-dense potatoes are an affordable, versatile, crowd-pleasing way to get the energy you need for any activity from running a marathon to running errands. She also shared a few easy, tasty potato recipes to keep the whole family going all day, including:
- On-the-Go Egg and Potato Mini Frittatas: Make ahead and freeze, so that you can heat one up any time.
- Potato Power Bowl: Add whatever toppings you have on hand—and great for leftovers!
- Baked Potato Hacks: Cook in an air fryer and add toppings that deliver even more protein, nutrients and flavor.
Kelly also shared with viewers that America’s favorite vegetable has more potassium than a banana, 3 grams of plant-based protein and almost one-third of the vitamin C we need daily, in addition to 2 grams of fiber to help us feel full longer.
The Results: Interviews with Kelly aired 1,420 times on 1,417 stations, reaching more than 13 million viewers—more than the population of New York City and Los Angeles combined!
