Potatoes at Retail: August 5, 2020
Sales at Retail July 20 – July 26, 2020
Data released by IRI shows retail produce dollar sales increased by 12% for the week ending on July 26, 2020. Vegetables carried the growth in the produce department with a 17% increase in dollars. Fruit sales grew 7.5%.
Potato sales at retail continue to show positive growth, with double-digit dollar sales growth for the week ending on July 26.
For the week ending July 26, 2020, frozen fruit and vegetables both saw double-digit gains. Frozen fruit sales were particularly high, gaining 36% on last year’s sales.
Trends
- Retailers are bringing hydroponic produce in-store for consumers.
- Consumers still lack confidence in their safety away from home. A study conducted by IRI July 10-12, 2020 shows that most are waiting over 4 more weeks before returning to certain activities.
