Runner Powers Through Race

2019

Local Denver Runner Powers through the Toughest Footrace on Earth with Potatoes

Ultrarunner Chavet Breslin, a Denver native, completed the Badwater 135 Ultramarathon for the second time in two years.

Toughest footrace on Earth

Known as the toughest footrace on Earth, Badwater is a 135-mile race through Death Valley in the heat of the summer. A tough race like this calls for exceptionally tough fuel and what better fuel than potatoes! Breslin stresses the importance of properly fueling your body for a long run and suggests potatoes to anyone who asks what she eats during her long races. Her go-to race food is mashed potatoes.

“Mashed potatoes are great during a race! When it’s hot, I have my team prepare them then put them on ice or I eat them right away when it’s cold outside. If I’m really worn out and don’t have much energy, my team can just water them down for me to almost drink them.”

Race in every state

Breslin has run at least a marathon, if not an even longer distance race, in each of the 50 states and has used potatoes to fuel her performance for every one of them. She is sponsored by Orange Mud and highlights mashed potatoes as her favorite race food on her Orange Mud athlete bio. [https://www.orangemud.com/pages/athlete-bio-chavet-breslin]

Breslin is also one of the first members of Team Potato, you can see her featured athlete story on PotatoGoodness.com. Potatoes USA looks forward to her continued work in promoting the power of potatoes as an exceptional race fuel as she becomes more involved with Team Potato.
